Spain's mixed capitalist economy is the thirteenth largest economy in the world, the fifth largest economy in the European Union and the fourth largest economy in the Eurozone. At the beginning of the 1990s, some Spanish companies became multinational companies. Most of the activities of these companies were in the field of Latin American countries. Even now, after the United States, Spain is considered the largest foreign investor in Latin America. Some other Spanish companies have expanded their activities to Asia and India and China. This global expansion is a competitive advantage for Spain against other European neighbors. The reason for this may be primarily the desire for Spanish language and culture in Asia and Africa, as well as the existence of a cooperative culture that taught Spaniards to take risks in volatile markets.
The main export goods of Spain in recent years have included the products of the automotive, food and tobacco industries. In 2013, the automotive industry of this country experienced a growth of 5.5%, and the food industry also achieved a growth of 5.7%, compared to 2012.
In total, these two sectors were able to allocate 31% of Spain's exports during the said year. It is worth mentioning that cars produced in Spain are now exported to 120 countries. The European Union has taken the largest share among the export destinations of this country by absorbing about 75% of the production of the Spanish automotive industry.
The markets of England, America, Germany and Italy have been the main destinations of exported cars. In the food industry, mainly Italy, France, America and Portugal are the four main export markets of Spanish food products.
